Party time!

Wow! What a fun pajama party we had!

Thanks to all the families who contributed drinks, snacks, treats, cups, plates, crackers and more.

We also had a hugely successful secret santa gift exchange. It was so nice to see all the thoughtful gifts people had purchased for their secret santa and all the grade 5s being thankful for everything they received.

After snacking we played some of our favourite games and 5G joined us to watch the dance prepared by Alina, Morgan, Meghan and Zakia. Well done ladies, it was clear you had worked very hard on the dance.

And of course, the part we had all been waiting for... eating our Gingerbread House! We all enjoyed devouring the delicious house that has been decorated our room for the past few days.

Here is the after picture...

Tomorrow is our Holiday Party!

Make sure you bring your Secret Santa Gift for our gift exchange.
By popular demand, this will be a pajama party... so bring some comfy PJs to wear for the party in the afternoon.

You should arrive in your PE kit WITH TRACKSUIT over top! It is very cold outside and it is NOT okay to show up/go out for recess in shorts.

Remember Thursday is our last day of school - lots of people think it's Friday (please don't show up on Friday, because no one will be here!) :)

First we enjoyed a book talk from Jaden's mom (and one of our wonderful class moms!). She was sharing a few great books that will be available at the Scholastic Book Fair on December 11. Her two favourites were "Loser" and "39 Clues" - everyone is excited to read them.

And later this afternoon, as a part of our Human Body unit we had a special guest Maxine Winters come in to teach us about teeth and help us make teeth and bone cross-sections. It was a fun and informative Art class!

A special presentation by Alina

Tomorrow Alina won't be at school because she is going to BC Place, where the spiritiual leader of the Ismailis will address over 30,000 people. We really enjoyed her presentation about what will happen tomorrow and why it is important to her and her family.

Here is a clip of the talk Alina gave us:

We had lots of questions for Alina, she did a great job of answering them all. Here are some of our questions:
  • Is he the spiritual leader?
  • Are you supposed to bring anything?
  • What happens during the day?
  • How many people will come?
  • Have you seen/met him before?
  • Why do you sit on the floor?
  • What food is in the snack back?

Alina shows us the mehndi (henna) on her hands. This was done to celebrate this special occasion, and is often a part of wedding ceremonies as well.
